Blair Road
Blair Road
Private Home
This project has a rather long story it began a few years ago when I was tipped off on a house which was being demolished to make room for a new home to be built. The house being demolished had a plethora of hidden treasures, some of which I was given permission to salvage. It began with the removal of the entire dinning room floor which was approx 1000sq ft of Imbuia, or some call it Brazilian Walnut. Imbuia has an unpredictable figuring, which producing stunning grain patterns. This is a truly unique wood and is now on the vulnerable “IUCN Red List of threatened Species…. so landing this was huge. It took me 41 hours to lift the floor and then transport it to my shop where it sat in what is now my “Atelier Showroom”. for over 5 years. I knew that what ever I made with this wood had to be special.
Fast forward I recieved a request to meet with a new potential client to look at a project opportunity. The client wanted me to make a table utilizing the wine cellar door which came from the demolished house, I agreed to take the project on and decided to surprise my client by using some of the Imbuia to build the table as it came from demolished house. When I delivered the table she was so happy that I had incorporated that wood which I had salvaged.
This was one of my favorite projects todate because I knew this table will become a family heirloom and will be the focal point of conversation for years to come.
Project Scope: Design and build a sofa table utilizing client supplied old wine cellar door.
Client Testimonial
Mary of For.M Design created a beautiful and functional sofa table for me incorporating a door of mine and other wood which had significance to me. The creativity and attention to detail in both the design and craftsmanship was beyond my expectations. I am so pleased with the quality of the product that we are now planning others projects.
